Acommon and often favoured mode of transport of tourists in SE Asia is the Tuk-tuk, a three-wheeled open-air vehicle where the passengers sit in the back. In Thailand the tuk-tuk drivers would spot my glowing white skin and literally chase me down the street enthusiastically calling out tuk-tuk. Despite showing no interest or shaking my head they wouldn't give up.
However, in Lao is it very different. When I walk past a tuk-tuk the drivers casually sing "tuk-tuk" more like a unique bird call. It seems that they aren't really all that interested in giving me a ride, but feel obliged as tuk-tuk drivers to offer rides to all western tourists that wander past. When Isay no and smile it is met with a smile and laugh in return.
Sabrina has also been busy blogging about a couple of our adventures, so I recommend visiting her blog for more news....www.sabsinasia.wordpress.com
